This presentation introduces a collision avoidance system featuring functionally safe person detection compliant with DIN EN ISO 13849 (PLd, Category 3). The system combines certified environmental perception with vehicle motion data within a safetyPLC. By fusing safe person detection with trajectory and kinematic information, it enables risk-based intervention strategies suitable for automated and autonomous vehicles. Another key application example is the protection of rearward maneuvers. During reversing, the monitored safety field dynamically correlates the predicted vehicle path with validated environmental data. Brake interventions are therefore triggered exclusively in genuinely hazardous situations, reducing false positives while maintaining compliance with safety requirements.
