Unlocking the full value of batteries: Vehicle‑to‑X for mobile machinery

11 Jun 2026
Conference
Electric & Hybrid Powertrain Part 3
Electric mobile machines are gaining traction, but high battery costs limit adoption. V2X concepts unlock additional value by using the traction battery beyond propulsion. The presentation explains V2L, V2H and V2G, outlining standards and off‑highway challenges. V2L shows strong demand, enabling machines to serve as mobile power sources, i.e. by replacing diesel generators. Additional potential lies in building support and grid‑related applications. A bidirectional 11kW onboard charger developed by Jungheinrich and IEB serves as a key enabling technology. Overall, V2X functionalities significantly increase the utility and economic value of electric mobile machines.
  • Why battery electric mobile machines need added value beyond propulsion – and how V2X can overcome the barrier of high battery costs
  • A clear overview of the V2X ecosystem (V2L, V2H, V2G) – including regulatory context, standards, and off‑highway specific challenges
  • High‑value real‑world V2X applications – such as telehandlers powering, aerial platforms powering tools and plug‑in hybrid off‑grid operations
  • Future opportunities in V2H and V2G – including temporary farm energy storage, supplying remote sites and fleet‑level grid support functions
  • The role of enabling technology – specifically the bidirectional 11kW 48-96V onboard charger as a key building block for practical V2X deployment
